Weldcote’s Carbon Steel 2 LB Goes Above and Beyond Industry Standards
Thanks to the higher levels of manganese and silicon compared to the other standard grades of MIG wire, our ER70S-6 wire produces a solid weld. This wire features an excellent tolerance of scale, which seems to come standard on steel rolls. Our carbon steel wires also consistently produce the highest deposit strength of all the carbon steel MIG wires.
ER70S – 6, .035 width is used for butt and fillet welding of sheets and can plate a variety of thicknesses. Consistent wire diameter is critical to ensure proper current passage from the contact tip to the wire. Undersized wire causes arcing between the wire and the inside diameter of the tip, which will erode the I.D. of the tip. This will eventually fuse the tip to the wire. Oversized wire causes excessive feeding force, tip blockage, wire slippage and downtime. It is important to keep this in mind, as constantly using incorrect wire width can lead to faulty welding, and mechanical issues.
Applications include general carbon steel fabrication. The ER70S-6 is most commonly used in the automotive and construction fields, since this wire can be used on oily surfaces.
