The Hypertherm Powermax Retaining Cap #220854 from Welder Supply was designed for the Hypertherm Powermax45, Powermax45 XP, Powermax65, Powermax85 and Powermax105.

It’s an extremely durable, long-lasting and superbly manufactured retaining cap. Using off-brand spare parts might save you a little money now, but could also jeopardize your Powermax Plasma Cutter. A retaining cap is essential for a plasma cutter because it keeps the swirl ring and nozzle in the right position, controlling the flow of coolant to the outside of the nozzle. The nozzle’s front composite piece is key to properly installing the shield concentric onto the nozzle orifice. This permits the nozzle to direct secondary gas to the shield.

Q - How often should the nozzle retainer be replaced? A - Standard cutting allows for longer usage of the nozzle retainer, but gouging can result in faster degradation of the retainer. The retainer should last several nozzle replacements, depending on the usage.
Q - When is it time to change my retaining cap? A - Change your retaining cap when there are areas on it that look worn from heat exposure.
Q - How will I know it is time to replace the nozzle retainer? A - When the threads have become clogged with slag or dirt, or areas on the cap that are worn due to heat exposure.
