I have had (2) of my guys use this PAPR system in the last few weeks while installing loading dock equipment and overhead doors. They have both said they like the systems, but have a few critiques overall. First, the system works well. It is much better than the alternative: breathing fumes. The hood really creates an isolated environment for you to weld. They have been using the helmet in Georgia's 70-90 degree weather, so they've had a good experience with the airflow and hotter climate. Their concerns were that the airflow would not be great enough, and you'd feel as though you were slowly suffocating since the hood isolates you from outside air completely. This has not been an issue for either one. The Negatives: The helmet is a good bit heavier than a standard helmet. We think the reason for this is due to the tube running into the top of the helmet. It creates a downward force because it wants to coil up from packaging, making the helmet seem heavier than it really is. Maybe this will go away with time (tube will loosen up and not want to coil like original packaging). Because it seems heavier, the insert that fits inside the helmet doesn't work very well. Its aggravating to adjust the helmet. Unless the helmet is very tight on your head (here come the headaches--ha) it will slide back down because of the weight/force of the tube. Secondly, the blower has a LOW & HIGH setting. This is awesome, because if you're hot, you get a good bit of air inside the helmet on the HIGH setting. Both my guys said they wished there was a higher setting, and the current HIGH setting would be a medium setting. Overall: I would recommend this to anyone who welds or has welders for employees. Safety from fumes is a serious problem in the construction industry, because of the lack of education and employers wanting to save money. If you're buying this product for yourself, it's totally worth it. A few updates I would make to this product: make a higher blower setting, and maybe explore new tubing possibilities or new helmet insert to better secure the helmet to your head.
